Peter F.
A prostate cancer survivor, Peter underwent 44 radiation treatments over nine weeks in 2015. His personal experience gives him a profound understanding of the vulnerability faced by those awaiting treatment, and he is committed to offering a compassionate and supportive presence in that environment.
Peter’s journey with CanCare began in 2017, when he joined a training class of about 30 volunteers. While he was already familiar with the survivor’s perspective, he found the training to be a transformative experience, deepening his understanding of the caregiver journey.
Throughout his years with CanCare, Peter has served on the Board of Directors and participated in various committees, all while generously supporting the organization as a loyal donor alongside his wife, Barbara. However, Peter still finds the most fulfillment in his direct service as a survivor by your side, volunteering every week in the Houston Methodist Sugarland Hospital’s Cancer Center radiation waiting room.
He shares, “the most joy I get is as a hospital volunteer. I see the impact of it each day, I see it working. I have all this energy for the things I’m passionate about, it gives me the confidence to talk and relate to anyone! It is the highlight of my week.”
