John R.
I am a 2-time cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2020, then went through radiation and chemotherapy treatments. And in 2024, I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in my right lung and underwent surgery to remove the cancer. Since I have personally gone through this "cancer journey", I feel a personal responsibility and honored to help others going through the same scary and uncertain journey.
I want to be involved in the lives of others who have entered into this "Cancer club". None of us volunteered to join this "cancer club" but we all need to help others who are going through this journey too. CanCare has provided the means to help others during their time of need.
Talking to someone who is going through the same things I went through is rewarding. Helping to ease the fears and uncertainty of someone else while letting them know that you care about them and their journey is rewarding.
To anyone thinking about seeking support from CanCare… No one should have to go through the cancer journey by themselves. Only those that have gone through this journey themselves can truly empathize with others who are going through cancer. CanCare is an organization that is genuinely committed to addressing the emotional needs of cancer patients and caregivers.
My words to pass along to anyone facing cancer… At some point in our lives, many of us think that we are invincible. When confronted with a situation like cancer, it really helps to voice your fears/concerns to someone who can truly identify with your journey and who cares about your fears and concerns.
