September News from CanCare

Dear CanCare Family,

As we transition into a new season, I want to extend my warmest greetings and deepest gratitude to all of you—our dedicated donors, clients, volunteers, and partners. The changing seasons remind us of the importance of adaptability, growth, and renewal, qualities that you embody every day through your unwavering support of CanCare.

Fall, for CanCare, ushers in an exciting season of change and growth! We are working hard to develop and launch our new matching platform CanCare Connect which will allow us to serve even more cancer patients and caregivers with a more robust and personal experience. And we are building new partnerships across the country that will enable us to expand our reach and impact.

As we welcome this new season, let us also welcome the opportunities it brings to continue our work together. Whether it’s through giving, volunteering, or receiving support, you are an essential part of the CanCare family, and we are grateful for your presence.

Thank you for being with us through every season. We look forward to the continued growth and positive impact we will achieve together.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Volunteer Highlight

Volunteer Spotlight: Larry, a beacon of Hope and resilience!

Larry's journey from El Paso, Texas, to becoming a cherished hospital volunteer is one of strength, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.

After studying at the University of Texas at El Paso and attending medical school in Dallas, Larry served his country in the Navy, where he specialized in Radiology.

For nine years, he was on  active duty, followed by 11 years in the reserves, exemplifying a life  dedicated to service.

Following his military career,  Larry joined UT Health in Houston and spent 40 years at Memorial Hermann TMC, touching countless lives with his expertise and compassion. But retirement  didn't slow Larry down; it simply opened a new chapter of giving back.

Driven by a desire to continue  making a difference, Larry began volunteering in the Child Life department,  bringing joy and comfort to young patients. His journey with CanCare started  three years ago with Class #105, and since then, Larry has been a pillar of  strength for countless individuals facing their own battles. One of the many  lives he touched was that of a paralyzed chemotherapy patient, to whom Larry  offered companionship and comfort through his gentle presence and kind words.

After losing his wife and then  facing his own lymphoma diagnosis, Larry found solace and support through GriefShare and CanCare. Now, celebrating 10 years cancer-free, Larry's spirit  remains unbroken, even as recent health challenges have temporarily kept him  from volunteering. But true to his nature, Larry is eager to return to the  work he loves so much.

Larry embodies the spirit of  CanCare with his dedication, compassion, and unwavering resilience. His story  is a testament to the power of giving back, even in the face of personal  adversity. We are honored to have Larry as part of our CanCare family and are  continually inspired by his incredible journey!
