One out of every three people will be diagnosed with cancer in
their lifetime. For many, the battle against this disease will be
the toughest challenge they'll ever face, physically, emotionally
and spiritually. Receiving news of a cancer diagnosis can uncover
feelings of fear, isolation, anger and disbelief and many begin
to question whether theyll ever live a rich and full life
again.
The good news is there is Hope and the journey doesnt have
to be taken alone. CanCare is here to help.
CanCare of Houston, Inc. is
an interfaith cancer support network that offers free, one-on-one,
long-term emotional support to cancer patients and their families.
This support comes from trained volunteers who themselves have experienced
and survived a cancer diagnosis or have been a caregiver to someone
who has. CanCare volunteers know how to face and overcome many of
the challenges presented by cancer. Their message of Hope, along
with their own testimony of survival, provides strength and courage
to those battling the disease.

Anne Shaw Turnage, a survivor
since 1973 of colon cancer with metastasis to the liver, founded
CanCare in 1990. With an anonymous gift of $10,000 from a member
of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church (Houston, Texas) and a belief
that no one with cancer should have to suffer alone, Anne set out
on a mission to improve the quality of life for cancer survivors
and their families.
CanCares goal is to offer cancer support services at every
congregation, hospital and corporation so that everyone going through
the cancer experience can receive CanCare's message of Hope.
