Hospital Visitation Program
Ruth Davies is one of the special people that relive their cancer experiences to provide hope as a CanCare hospital volunteer. “As a hospital volunteer at Houston Methodist Hospital for over a decade-and-a-half, I tell patients that when they hit a rough patch, and most do, to just see me in their thoughts and think, she did it – I can too.” CanCare works directly with hospitals and treatment centers in Texas, Georgia and Colorado to secure the continuum of care that lives out the mission to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. Specially trained volunteers are available to medical partners and families to talk to patients who have questions, concerns or who find hope in meeting someone who has been there and kicked cancer. Selfless CanCare volunteers like Ruth also bring hope and reassurance to those waiting for loved ones who are getting treatments or undergoing surgery. Sometimes volunteers are invited to visit but in most instances, they just show up to give a hug and a smile or share a prayer.
