CanCare Announces Cristina Vetrano as new President and CEO

Houston, TX … Following an extensive search, the CanCare Board of Directors announced today the appointment of Cristina Vetrano as President and CEO of CanCare effective May 9, 2016.  In her former role as Executive Director for Kids’ Meals, Inc., she led the charge to end hunger by delivering meals to the doorsteps of Houston’s hungriest preschool-aged children.

“Having many family members who have been touched by cancer, including my father who has been battling lymphoma and liver cancer for the past four years, it is with great enthusiasm that I join CanCare to further the work of an organization that has been dedicated to its mission for 26 years,” shared Vetrano. “Support provided by someone who has traveled down this road before and come out triumphant is an essential piece when faced with the emotional challenges of fighting cancer.”

Prior to taking the helm at Kids’ Meals, Vetrano grew up in Southern California and graduated from San Diego State University with a finance undergrad degree.  After college she served in the Peace Corps in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia as a small business volunteer.  After Peace Corps, she worked in advertising while earning an MBA, and then worked at the American Red Cross in Washington, DC where she implemented large IT systems for both Health and Safety Services and Disaster Services.

When asked about her long-time passion for working with service organizations, she shared, “I volunteered for Special Olympics as a soccer, basketball and floor hockey coach in college and knew then that I wanted to pursue a career in the not-for-profit sector.”

Vetrano attends St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and joins CanCare after former president and CEO, Nancy Tucker, retired in February 2016 after 25 years with the organization.
