How can this be? Stage IIIc ovarian cancer at 33? Although nauseous and weak, I found the strength to push through as I had two daughters counting on me to make it. I rang that bell on August 16, 2013, and later joined the staff of CanCare to help others. I am forever thankful for God’s love, grace, and healing power.

Cristina has over 25 years of experience in non-profit organization management. Her longtime passion for service organizations began with her Peace Corps experiences in Mongolia. She has leveraged her degree in Finance and an MBA to assist the American Red Cross and Kids Meals to expand in scope and impact, and now provides bold leadership to make the CanCare mission even more impactful.

Jacquelyn’s passion for health is seen in her track record as a CanCare volunteer and a member of the M.D. Anderson Patient/Family Advisory Council. She is a certified holistic health coach with over 20 years of corporate experience in marketing, operations, project management, mentoring and building relationships.

Yolanda’s passion to help others comes naturally from her extensive professional background in human resources having interacted with people at all levels in diverse industries in corporate America. She holds a B.A. in Foreign Languages and is a certified Paralegal. She has extensive community outreach experience and has been a Cancare volunteer since 1996.
Valerie Garate Ramirez
Director of Development
Valerie has a great passion for making a positive difference in the lives of others, and has experience working and volunteering in the nonprofit sector for 5+ years. Valerie has a B.A. in Mass Communications focused on Public Relations and Advertising, and a M.A. in Nonprofit Management from the University of Houston- Downtown. She has diverse experience in program development, marketing, communications, community outreach and client advocacy. Valerie is currently a member of the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Young Professionals Group and Latin Women’s Initiative. She is also currently the Philanthropy Advisor for the University of Houston Delta Zeta Sorority Collegiate Chapter.

Gaby’s passion for helping others started in high school as a community volunteer. It was then she realized she wanted to have a career in the not-for-profit sector. She obtained her B.A. in Public Relations from the University of Houston and has more than 8 years experience in development and research and event planning from Rice University and United Way of Greater Houston.
Maria has almost 40 years of experience in the oil and gas sector in the project controls group, which involved cost analysis, invoicing, scheduling, cash flow and currency fluctuation predictions. She has a B.S. in Construction Management and a B.A. in Spanish from Purdue University. She loves running and has been involved with CanCare since 1996, when the Houston Marathon launched their “Run for A Reason” initiative. She has been raising funds for CanCare ever since, and strongly believes in the CanCare mission.
